From retail to financial services to
telecommunication and government, location information plays a key role
in decisions that can make or break an organization's success. But many
of the spatial operations used in location intelligence applications
are highly compute-intensive, requiring considerable additional
processing capacity in the data warehouse.
The cost, complexity and high level of expertise
required to analyze
and manipulate spatial data have historically created a divergence
between GIS and IT infrastructures. Over time, this has tended to
create a distinct "spatial silo" in many enterprises, with very limited
sharing of data and analyses for location intelligence. The result is
that the individuals who have access to and understanding of spatial
data cannot easily collaborate with the business users or decision
makers who could use the information to improve business processes.

But there is a solution! GIS industry veteran Peter
Batty will describe
ground-breaking data warehouse appliances from Netezza, which have been
designed specifically to perform complex analytics on terabytes of
data. Guy Carpenter's Shajy Mathai will discuss how that
company has
leveraged Netezza Spatialâ„¢, Netezza's application extension, to provide
high-value location analytics applications to its insured business
clients.
"Everyday, geospatial professionals face the
challenge of building a more location-aware enterprise and
overcoming the challenges of managing and analyzing spatial data. Join
